FINALISTCOMMITTED STUDENT AVENIR
Jeanne Rieux

A student committed to turning a blind eye to her own limitations in order to reach her full potential and do good in her community

If anyone thinks a visual impairment and dysphasia could ever stop Jeanne Rieux from reaching her full potential, they are undoubtedly underestimating this student at Sainte-Famille/aux Trois-Chemins high school. With her great strength of character, Jeanne seizes every opportunity to put her skills to good use. A humanitarian aid trip to Haiti, a haunted house project in her community, the free school meals service and volunteer work with the elderly, Jeanne consistently seeks to do good wherever she can. Her natural leadership skills have enabled her to move up the ranks in her Cadet Corps and she has consequently been entrusted with more and more responsibilities. It should also be pointed out that she performs exceptionally well at rifle shooting competitions despite her visual impairment, which just goes to show that nothing can stop her!

A student committed to making her school a pleasant living environment for everyone

Helping young people develop their open-mindedness and be more accepting of differences, learning to understand others and demystifying certain taboos that affect students are all reasons that allow Valérie Malette to remain motivated and committed to her extracurricular activities at school. This student at Du Versant high school is a founding member and the current president of the Brigade NOEL, a group with which she volunteers as a peer support provider, performing various interventions and organizing theme weeks, and thus helping to make her school a more pleasant environment for everyone. Dynamic and blessed with a strong sense of initiative, she also shows her concern for others through her involvement with the Solidarité committee, which promotes volunteerism in the local community, and which also prompted her to give of her time to Canadian Heritage and the Quebec Cancer Foundation.

FINALISTCOMMITTED STUDENT AVENIR

Charles Henrie

A student committed to tapping into his creativity to offer his fellow students a stimulating school environment

Charles Henrie sees getting involved at school as a means of drawing on his originality and creativity in order to add a touch of colour to the daily lives of his fellow students. He does so, among other things, as a member of the student council at Mont-Bleu high school, helping to set up numerous projects such as the festivities surrounding various theme days, the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge and a multicultural week. Charles is also involved in the Brigade culinaire cooking team that allows him to develop his talents as a cook as well as providing an opportunity to take social action when preparing meals that are donated to community organizations. And because he is always ready and willing to give of his time, he can often be seen, a smile on his face, making posters or hanging up decorations as a way of lending a hand whenever he’s needed.
