Brigade NOEL

Students committed to making their school a respectful and stimulating living environment for everyone

Since the Brigade NOEL (Nous On Est Là!) support group was set up at Du Versant high school, denunciations of bullying incidents have increased by 20%, which in turn has helped restore a sense of security at the school. This is a dramatic result considering that the main actors behind the project are all students themselves. The Brigade is made up of 14 students from Secondary 3 through 5 and is dedicated to helping young people experiencing hard times or caught in conflict relationships. The Brigade’s volunteer members have all received prior training in counselling and can thus recognize signs of distress, respond to confidences and refer students to the appropriate resources. They are also on the frontline when it comes to setting up theme weeks aimed at raising awareness of various issues.

Students committed to encouraging blood donations that help save lives

When a group of students in the international education program at Hormisdas-Gamelin high school found out that only 3% of people in Québec who are eligible to give blood actually do so, they decided they wanted to increase this figure and did so by organizing a blood drive on February 6 in collaboration with Héma-Québec. To make their event a success, Justine Veilleux and Sabryna Laroche, the two students in charge of the project, had already begun their preparations the previous October. They had no time to lose as they needed to build a team of volunteers, plan the logistics, develop a communications plan and start raising awareness in their community of the importance of blood donation. And everything was in place when the big day finally arrived and, thanks to the sustained efforts of the entire team of student volunteers, a total of 191 people gave blood.

ESGVert

Students committed to raising awareness among all students and staff of the importance of reducing their ecological footprint

“And what if we decided to take environmental protection into our own hands?” It must have been something along these lines that a group of students at Grande-Rivière high school said to themselves when they decided to join forces to set up the ESGVert committee, whose goal is to propose, implement and oversee numerous green actions. Whether it’s by restoring an abandoned greenhouse to supply vegetables to the student coffee shop, orchestrating an energy and water consumption awareness campaign, advocating the installation of two water fountains adapted for refilling bottles or developing a tree planting project for the school grounds, the ESGVert committee has amply proved its worth and its ability to bring about change. Irrespective of the type of activity, the committee has set itself the goal of raising awareness among all students and staff of the importance of reducing their ecological footprint.

FINALISTCOMMITTED PROJECT AVENIR
Petits Gestes Monde Heureux
