Selection process

1st stage : THE UNIVERSITIES

Each university will make a first selection and will submit a maximum of two applications per category.

2nd stage : THE SPECIALIST JURIES

For each category, Forces AVENIR will set up a jury of three people recognized in their field. These juries will select the recipients of the grants and AVENIR trophies.

IMPORTANT : In order to determine the three finalists and the recipient of the AVENIR award for each of the categories, the juries will call the representatives of the four best applications for an interview. In regard to the Personality AVENIR - Undergraduates category, the jury for this category will call the representatives of the ten best applications for an interview in order to select the six finalists and the three recipients of the AVENIR awards.

The interviews will take place in June 2016. The candidates are responsible for attending these interviews. For the Personality AVENIR categories, the juries will call the candidate for an interview. For the Project AVENIR categories, they will call the project’s spokesperson or one of its members.

THE REPRESENTATIVES ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THESE INTERVIEWS, EITHER IN PERSON, BY PHONE OR BY VIDEOCONFERENCE.

3rd stage : THE GRAND JURY

Finally, a Grand Jury made up of a number of key figures in society representing different fields will determine the recipients of the AVENIR Par excellence grants and trophies.

Selection Criteria

COMMITTED PROJECT AVENIR

Tangible results : 30 points

This criterion measures the project’s actual effects and end results as well as its impact on the community and public. For example: What repercussions did the project have on the university, community and region? What kind of impact did the project have on its participants and the public in general? How did the project affect the people concerned?

Relevance : 15 points

This criterion measures the project’s purpose and merits. For example: Does the project address a specific need or problem in the community? Does it support a specific cause? How relevant were the goals pursued through the project in terms of the category in which it was submitted?

Innovative nature : 15 points

This criterion measures the project’s originality and innovativeness. For example: Is the project unique or do similar projects already exist? Is this the first year the project was carried out or is it a recurring event? Is the project daring? Does it create something new? Does it stand out for its uniqueness?

Influence : 15 points

This criterion measures the project’s visibility, influence, scope and renown. For example: How broad is the project’s influence? Does the project reach out to a group, the entire university, the city, the province or another country? Is the project known and recognized at the university, within the community or across the region?

Organization's scope : 10 points

This criterion measures the organizational scope, the level of complexity and degree of structuring. For example: How many participants are involved in the project and contribute to its success? Is its organization complex and well structured?

Educational impact : 5 points

This criterion measures the project’s educational, enriching and instructive character. For example: Do the people touched directly or indirectly learn something new thanks to the project? Does it inform people about a particular issue, subject, situation or problem?

Pursuit of funding : 5 points

This criterion measures the funding methods (fundraisers, donations, sponsorships, etc.) the participants used in order to implement their project. If the project members did not need to secure funding, this criterion will measure the course of action taken to set up the project.

Quality of the language : 5 points

This criterion measures the quality of the language, including structure, grammar and argumentation.

Grand total : 100 points

 

COMMITTED STUDENT AVENIR

Balance between social commitment, academic success ans personal qualities : 20 points

It must be clear that the candidate’s involvement did not take precedence over their studies and that he/she remained constant and efficient at school. There must be a balance between social commitment, academic success and personal qualities.

Responsibilities and leadership : 20 points

Is the candidate a leader? Is the candidate required to justify the actions taken? Does the candidate have many responsibilities? Is the candidate an essential member of the group?

Achievements and tangible results : 20 points

What kind of impact has the candidate’s actions had on the community and the people concerned? What have these actions achieved?

Consistency in all the specified criteria throughout the course of studies (over a long period of time) : 20 points

Is the candidate’s commitment consistent or irregular? Has the candidate been socially involved since the beginning of their studies or is this the first time?

Multidisciplinary nature : 15 points

Is the candidate involved in just one field or is he/she interested in a variety of different disciplines  (sport, the arts, health, etc.)?

Quality of the language : 5 points

This criterion measures the quality of the language, including structure, grammar and argumentation.

Grand total : 100 points

 

AVENIR PAR EXCELLENCE

The recipients of the Personality AVENIR Par Excellence and AVENIR Project Par Excellence awards are determined based not only on the same criteria as the other categories but also on the exceptional nature of the application file.

A separate application is not required for these two awards.
